פסל עשוי ממאות שכבות של קרטונים – גובה 2 מטר, רוחב 1 מטר ואורך 4 מטר. נקודת המבט החשובה והעיקרית של הפסל הוא מזווית מסויימת ששם יש חור בתוך הפסל שהוא קצת יותר גדול מפרצוף ממוצע של מבוגר, וככל שהשכבות מתרחקות החור הולך וקטן עד שאחרי 4 מטר החור קטן כמחט. מעל הפסל יש נורה שזזה הלוך ושוב (בהלוך היא דלוקה ובחזור היא כבויה), כך הנורה מאירה את השכבות מבפנים ונוצר לצופה אשלייה של מנהרה אינסופית בתוך הפסל, ניתן לראות את האפקט בסרטון הקצר כאן למעלה
A sculpture made of hundreds of cardboard pieces – 6.5 feet tall, 3 feet wide, 13 feet long (2 meters tall, 1 meter wide, 4 meters long). There is a main and most important vantage point where the viewer sees a hole that is a bit larger then an average adult’s face. The cardboard layers get smaller and smaller until after 13 feet the hole is as tiny as a needle. Above the sculpture there’s a moving light (it is turned on one way and turned off coming back), so when the light passes through the vessel it creates an illusion of ever-lasting depth becoming smaller and thinner until it disappears, you can see the effect via the short video above.
הפסל בנוי גם מבפנים וגם מבחוץ בהשראת עצים (מבחוץ צורה של גזע, ומבפנים הטבעות זמן של עץ כשחתוך לרוחב). היה לי חשוב ליצור את הפסל דווקא מקרטונים ממוחזרים (ולא קנויים) כדי להזכיר לחומר מאיפה הוא בא (שהרי קרטון עשוי מנייר ומקורו עץ). זה היה מאין ׳דחיית המתים׳ – חומר שכביכול מת וזרוק חוזר לצורה הקדומה שלו כדי להזכיר לו את מקורו. החלק של הגזע של הפסל מונח על קביים מעץ (רציתי שתהיה תחושה של עץ גדום החתוך משני הצדדים ושאין לו שורשים), מתוך כוונה לחוות פרדוקס – שהפסל הוא גדום אך בתוכו יש אינסוף (כמובן רק אשלייה של אינסוף), ולשאול את השאלה איך האינסוף יכול לשכון בתוך הסוף? כמו אדם שיש בתוכו אינסוף רגשות ותחושות ומחשבות, אך הגוף שלו סופי – פרדוקס שמעניין אותי מאד
The sculpture was inspired by trees (from the inside and out – the outside being the trunk of the tree, and the inside rings of a tree that show its age). It was important for me to create the sculpture using recycled (and not new) cardboard because I wanted to remind the material its origins (as cardboard is made from paper and the source of paper – trees). It was a kind of resurrection – material that was thrown away and dead coming back and being reminded of its original shape and essence. The trunk of the sculpture sits on crutches made from wood (as I wanted the feeling of a trunk that has no roots), since it is kind of paradox – how can the infinite (in this case an illusion of the infinite) be inside a finite shape? This is the same for mankind – how can a person have infinite thoughts, feelings, ideas and have a finite body? This is a paradox that interests me very much.
