Nothingness and Me / האין ואני
ספר של ההיסטוריה של הספרות העברית (18 ס״מ רוחב, 28 ס״מ אורך, 4 ס״מ עובי) שחקקתי לתוכו וחשפתי על פני השטח את המקומות שבהן מופיעות המילים “אין” ו”אני” (משום מה חשבתי שאמצא הרבה יותר ״אני״ מאשר ״אין״ אך גיליתי ש״אין״ מופיע פי עשר). המילים האלה מורכבות מאותן אותיות אך משמעותן הפוכות – ה״אין״ מצד אחד מרוקן, מצד שני משמעותו ׳אינסוף׳, וה”אני” המלא אך גם סופי. זהו לא במקרה שהמילים האלו מורכבות מאותן אותיות ובקבלה יש הרבה לימוד בקשר לריקוד שקורה בין ה׳אני׳ ל׳אין׳, בין המלאות להתרוקנות, בין הסופי לאינסופי. לקח לי שלושה חודשים ליצור את העבודה הזאת – מתוכם חודש רק למפות את כל הספר, ניתן לראות את המיפוי בתמונה למטה
I carved into a Jewish Hebrew literature book [7 inches wide (18 cm), 11 inches long (28 cm), 1.5 inches thick (4 cm)], mapping out all the places in the book where two words were shown “Ain” (Nothingness / Infinite), and “Ani” (Me / Finite). I carved through the top of the book in order to expose these two words and show them on the surface. These two words in hebrew are constructed from the very same letters, the meaning of one is empty (nothingness, but also has another meaning – ‘infinite’) and the meaning of the other is full (me, ‘finite’). It is not by chance that these two words are each a puzzle of the same letters, in the Kabbalah there is a lot of talk in regards to the dance between me and the nothingness, fullness and emptiness, the finite and the infinite. It took me 3 months to complete – the 1st month I read through the whole book and mapped out all the places where I saw the words “Ain” and “Ani”, here’s the mapping out of it (the numbers stand for the pages the words appeared on):
